German Travel Show 2012

German Travel Show 2012

Last week’s “Germany Travel Show 2012” – the German National Tourist Office’s annual workshop for the UK travel trade and press – was the biggest and most successful show since its launch fifteen years ago. 61 of Germany’s key tourist partners such as hotels, town & city representatives and regional tourist boards met with 180 UK tour operators and travel organisers for the annual one-stop premier event for incoming travel to Germany. This year the show was held at the unique & prestigious “One Marylebone” in the heart of London.

As the only Germany Show in the UK the GTS once again proved to be the ideal platform for UK travel trade buyers and press to meet core business partners from Germany and learn about the GNTO’s 2012 marketing- and PR themes: “Wine heritage and Nature”, “Germany – open for business” as well as “800 years of St. Thomas choir” in Leipzig.

Despite a general downturn in UK holiday departures, along with a rise of “staycations”, Germany has increased its overnight stays between January and November 2011 by 2.9%. Klaus Lohmann, Director of the GNTO UK & Ireland, comments “The wonderful result underlines how attractive the German market is – even in such challenging times. It reflects the strengths of my country as a travel destination with many faces, a fantastic variety of events, offering top quality and a super infrastructure within a save environment.”
