Australia’s Great Southern Rail has announced:  Great Southern Rail is giving travellers the opportunity to book two of their iconic rail journeys at a discounted rate

– Savings of up to 25% on The Ghan and Indian Pacific
– The completion of its Indian Pacific refurbishment programme

Savings of up to 25% on The Ghan and Indian Pacific
Great Southern Rail is giving travellers the opportunity to book two of their iconic rail journeys at a discounted rate from now until 30th June 2012, when booked through a travel agent or tour operator, as follows:

– 25% discount for travel between 1st Nov 2012 to 31st  March 2013
– 15% discount for travel between 1st April to 31st Oct 2012

These offers apply to Gold Service rail fares on:

The Ghan – Darwin to Adelaide, Darwin to Alice Springs, Alice Springs to Adelaide
Indian Pacific – Perth to Sydney, Perth to Adelaide, Adelaide to Sydney

To take advantage of these discounts passengers must book through one of Great Southern Rails preferred travel agents or tour operators in the UK, including Bridge the World, Freedom Australia, Trailfinders and Bridge & Wickers.

The Indian Pacific’s refurbishment programme, which took two years to complete, sees:

Gold Twin cabins featuring modern ensuite bathrooms and plush new soft furnishings as well as a new in-cabin audio system featuring five radio channels offering a range of different commentary and music options
Upgraded Outback Explorer Lounge & Queen Adelaide Restaurant carriages

Chief Executive of Great Southern Rail, Chris Tallent, said; “Tens of thousands of visitors enjoy a journey aboard the iconic Indian Pacific each year and it is important that we continue to invest in our carriages and maintain the high standard of comfort aboard the train.

“These refurbishments are just the beginning of a range of exciting changes that we will be introducing over the next 12 months. We are set to redefine rail travel in Australia and unveil some exciting service enhancements aboard Australia’s Great Train Journeys.”

Last year Great Southern Rail’s budget-friendly Red Service underwent major refurbishment with upgrades to the Red Day/Nighter Seats and Red Sleeper cabins, and the introduction of new lounge and cafe carriages.

The Indian Pacific now offers top quality accommodation carriages across all three of its service levels, from its premium Platinum, through to Gold and budget friendly Red Service, there is an accommodation level to suit all tastes and budgets.
